As the weeks and months pass on, Courtney is getting better and better at talking. Instead of just repeating words, she is now repeating phrases. She will also say some of the phrases she has memorized from her books (my baby can read!!!...hahaha). In the past month she has even started trying to sing with me. It is so funny because she will often say the words right after or before I have said them. It is hard not to laugh, but oh so cute. She will do parts of Jesus Loves Me and it just melts my heart. She also likes Itsy Bitsy Spider and Wheels on the Bus.
We also continue to discover what a little comedian we have on our hands. She loves to entertain and when we laugh at something she says, she repeats it. I know kids do this a lot as they get older. I just didn't expect it to start at 20 months! Christopher and I don't talk about or go to Home Depot all that often but somehow she has picked up on the name of the store. I asked him maybe a week ago if he stopped by the Depot on his way home and Courtney corrects me saying 'Home Depot'. We both bust up laughing and wonder how she picked it up. Well now that she knows it is hilarious, she repeats it constantly and out of nowhere. Other things she thinks are funny are saying 'bafroom' (bathroom) during almost every meal and randomly saying 'Dr Rion' (he is our chiropractor and we taught her his name a couple months ago and now she says it often...I think she has a crush ;) ). Another often used phrase is 'close it', This goes back to her detail oriented nature. She wants every door, drawer, gate, etc closed as soon as possible. Nothing is to be left undone. She will inspect the cabinets and drawers during her meals and if one is not closed all the way she will point at is and say 'close it'. She also picks up the tiniest little pieces of lint or crumb and will hand it to me and say 'gum' (for welcome). Who knew I could have a kid that is already so much like me at such a young age???
She also has gotten really interested in the phone recently. I don't let her play with my phone. This picture was a very rare occasion. Mostly she uses her toys or other found objects and pretends they are a phone. She will take phrases she has heard me say and repeat them on her 'phone'. 'This Courtney. Take a message?' It's pretty great.

Bango Moogick
About a year ago I read in a Westways magazine that there is an annual Folk Festival in Agoura. I thought that it sounded so fun, but didn't think Courtney was old enough to appreciate it at that point. I talked about it with my mom and we agreed that the following year we should all go to it together. Somehow this led into my mom discovering the Sleepy Man Banjo Boys. She wanted their cd, so I bought it for her when it released last year. I had borrowed it from my mom and put it on my computer because I noticed that Courtney liked the banjo instrument on her music table. Little did I know what I was starting when I started playing this cd for her. In the past few months she has become hooked on it and is constantly asking for 'bango moogick' (translation: banjo music). I thought it was so cute, but I have to admit day after day of listening to the same cd over and over again does get a bit tiring. Her dad is working on expanding her horizons and she has since learned to say 'jazz' as well. So back to the Folk festival...I checked out when it was and put it on my calendar. Mom and I bought our tickets and on May 20th we all went to the Folk Festival. Again I thought Courtney would be on the edge of her seat and while she did seem to enjoy it, it was not the enthralled reaction I had envisioned. Apparently, I expect a bit too much. We all had a good time though listening to various groups jamming and hearing a couple different groups on stage. Unfortunately it was very hot and we weren't able to stay more than a few hours without one of us melting down ;).
