Our little ham

As I mentioned in an earlier post, we flew out to Florida the day after Christmas to spend some time with Christopher's family. Courtney did really well on the flights out there, which was a 4 hour flight to Atlanta and a 1 hour flight to Jacksonville. Despite her parents mishaps (ummm, so who knew they don't have baby changers on some airplanes + disposable diapers are terrible for containing a mess + we had the shortest layover in history = dirty baby for far too long : /) , she remained pretty happy and calm. She slept for the majority of those flights.

Our flights home were a different story. Our first flight out of Jacksonville left a few minutes late, but that wasn't a big deal as we had a longer layover in Atlanta this time. Courtney was a little fussier this day, but did ok on the one hour stint. Then came the dreaded flight from Atlanta to LA. We didn't know how much we were going to dread this getting on, but what an adventure it was. We left about 45 minutes later than scheduled due to needing to de-ice the plane (which they never actually ended up doing since it had stopped snowing and 'looked ok' and by looked ok we mean that the copilot walked through the plane and looked out a window and said it was fine). So off we go. Again Courtney is having  some trouble and just our luck she had learned how to make this awfully loud squaking sound just days prior and she was eager to share this new talent with the other passengers. At first people looked at us like wow that is a funny sound, but it quickly became a face that said wow can you please make that stop immediately? Unfortunately we couldn't. I sat there trying to get Courtney to fall asleep for nearly an hour and a half. I handed her over to Christopher so I could use the bathroom and when I came back 5 minutes later, she had passed out on him. So we think things are getting better and then our zen moment is interrupted by a flight attendant coming on the loud speaker asking if there are any doctors on the plane. That's never good. They ask again and about 15 minutes later inform us all that due to this medical emergency we are being diverted to New Mexico so that this passenger can get medical attention. Well we had already passed Albuquerque but we had to turn around to get back there as it was the closest airport. We land, medical personnel come on and take off this older woman in a wheelchair. Everyone feels bad for her and is in decent spirits about the whole thing.. Then the captain informs us that the tanker filling up gas has broken and there is not another one as this airport is not used to such big planes. He says we may have to fly to Phoenix and refill there. I guess some miracle occurred after this announcement as another tanker did come and finish filling the plane. Finally we are back on our way. When all was said and done this flight that was supposed to be 4 hours and 45 minutes was about 7 hours. Everyone was exhausted and Courtney had been fussing off and on. We got off the plane and had to wait for her car seat and stroller. As we were standing there, Courtney began smiling so big and giggling at the wary passengers as they passed by. It looked something like this:
Now how can you be mad when looking at a face like that? She pulls out the charm when needed...she takes after her dad :).
